Engagement among Malaysian Public University learners of Mandarin as a Foreign Language: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis of Engagement Scale

When imagining the ideal classroom, most teachers strive for engagement. To know if learners are engaged in their learning, need to get on with tasks, be attentive class, complete assignments and actively participate class activities. In contrast, feel relaxed energetic enjoy learning. Numerous theoretical models of engagement suggest that it is important education second languages but has limited adoption foreign language especially Mandarin as a language. This study aims analyse psychometric properties Foreign Language Engagement scale. A random sample 614 individuals from selected public universities Malaysia was used study. The 14 items Scale (MFLES) factor structure adopted previous studies analysed using confirmatory analysis. found MFLES good properties.
